-SAVE TENZIN DELEK RINPOCHE'S LIFE-

Day Five:
From: Where US 52 diverge from Rt 231: Montmorenci, Indiana
To: Junction US 52 with US 41Earl Park; Indiana

Distance: 30 Miles
Topography: Yesterday's question: "Can it get any flatter?" Today's Answer: "Apparently so."

Weather: Particularly cold in the morning and the shadows, but all in all a spectacular day for biking, fishing, farming, back yard lounging, and oh yeah WALKING. However, by mid-day the wind became so fierce we had no choice but to take refuge inside an abandoned High School. Go Bison!

Landmarks: There was this really twisted tree worth a roll of 120 film, an underpass for the old rail road tracks littered with graffiti from the Class of '93 (also worth some 120), The Indiana All-Star Wall inside Benton County High School, bustling Downtown Fowler, and that tremendous sunset across the tracks as we concluded the western push of the trip as 52 met with US 41.

The March:
Start: 8:15am
Break: 10:15am
Lunch Break: 2:15pm (Benton County High School)
2nd Half: 3:00pm
Break: no time
Finish: 6:00pm

Avg. Time: 4 mph
Total Time: 7hours

Daily Mileage: 30
To Date: 101.8

Marchers:
Core: 7: Passang Passang (Minnesota), Jigme Norbu (Bloomington), Tenzin Jamyang (Chicago), Ngawang Norbu (Boston) Ngawang Lobsang (Chicago), Larry Gerstein (Indy), Douglas Herman (NYC)

Guests: 6: Tenam Namgyal (Indy), Kimberly Namgyal (Indy), Tony Settineri (Ball State University), Olga Kildisheva (SFT President: Purdue University), Valerie Purvin (Indy), Tsering Dhondup (Indy)

Casualties: CONSIDERING WE WALKED 30 MILES IT'S A DAMN MIRACLE THAT THERE WAS NOT ONE INJURY OR COMPLAINING VOICE!!

Stand Outs: The tremendous effort put forth by the Guest Marchers: Val, Kimberly, Olga (who led the group with the Tibetan Flag the entire time she walked), Tony (on his maiden voyage into the teeming sea of political dissention), and of course the most excellent return of one of our normal regs- Tenam. (You do make the best damn Chai I have ever had this side of India).

Rating: So when was the last time you walked 30 miles in the wind? Long and Grueling, but well worth the collective effort.

Host Families:
Friday, Dec. 4: Unitarian Church, Lafayette, Indiana
Breakfast: Unitarian Church, Lafayette, Indiana
Lunch: Fellure Foods of Otterbein, IN catered a banquet at Benson County H.S.
Dinner: Khana Khazana's Indian Buffet, West Lafayette, IN (Purdue Univ.) courtesy of our 'Recon Man'-Charles Roach.

Leg 6: Rt 41 just outside of Kentland, IN due north towards Chicago until intersection of US 41N and SR114 (68 miles to go) 20.4 miles

Quote of Day: "3 hour walk ... 15 minute drive, is that a slap in the face or what?"

"By any peaceful means necessary"

Q: "Which girl is this Tsering?"
A: "The Tsering who has his hand around your shoulder right now!"
