Today's 10 mile walk started with a prayer.
After covering about 6 miles we had a picnic on the side of the road. The weather and the scenery today has been beyond gorgeous. 60 degrees and sunny. Perfect picnic weather.
Just as we began to indulge in our bologna and cheese sandwiches a small group of men approached our gathering curious to know who we were and what we were doing. One of the men, an elder of the Lakota nation (wearing the black vest), after learning of our mission honored us with a blessing.
Sonam, a Tibetan living in Portland, talked about a trip he took to Tibet in a few years ago. He was born in India and moved to the USA in 1992. His journey to Tibet was the first and only time he'd seen his native homeland. "It hit me like cold water," he said. "Seeing Tibet and how hard the Tibetan people have it. Of course I had heard about the suffering, but to have seen it myself...ever since then I don't stop thinking about it and every thought is what can I do to make a difference." |
