“Team Tibet” hit a home run almost as welcome as Prince Fielder’s 32nd of the season, which won the game for the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. 50 Members of the local Tibetan community and their supporters rallied the crowd both for the Brewers and for the people of Tibet, from their seats in the Hot Zone of left field.

“It was incredible to see how responsive the crowd was to our cause and to our message,” said the local event organizer, Abi Scott, of Students for a Free Tibet. “We even had other fans joining in, wearing our Team Tibet jerseys and cheering for a Free Tibet.”

Anxiety ran high among the crowd as the Philadelphia Phillies pulled into the lead, but the members of Team Tibet kept the crowd going, waving Tibetan and American flags, joining in to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the 7th inning stretch, and loudly chanting for their cause.

“We were pleased to have so many young Tibetans participating in the event,” stated Lobsang Tenzing, president of the Wisconsin Tibetan Association, which sponsored the tickets for the Tibetans attending the game. “We are encouraging our young people to celebrate their culture and use the freedoms guaranteed to them in the United States for the people who are currently living under oppression in the occupied nation of Tibet.”
