Download the Chicago Team Tibet Press Release What
is “Team Tibet?” The goal is to establish a “Team Tibet” in each country where Tibetans live with supporters joining the Team as well. Here’s how you can join. If you are Tibetan, have talent or serious interest in one of the sports to be featured at the Beijing Olympics, and you want to join “Team Tibet,” please email rangzen@aol.com IMMEDIATELY. The sports included in the 2008 Olympics are Aquatics, Archery, Track and Field, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Canoe/kayak, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Football (Soccer), Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Softball, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. If you know of a Tibetan who should be on the Team, please have him/her email rangzen@aol.com.
Non-Tibetans can join “Team Tibet” by spreading the word about the Team and by working to press for political change in China in the lead-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. One simple way Tibetans and other individuals can show support for “Team Tibet” is by purchasing a “Team Tibet” T-shirt. On August 8th, China will celebrate the One-Year Countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympics, an event that makes a mockery of the spirit of the Olympic Games and is an insult to Tibetans. In response to China's upcoming celebration, many Tibet organizations around the world are collaborating on various activities to promote the Tibet issue and also “Team Tibet.” For example, in North America on August 4th, ITIM, the International Campaign for Tibet, and Students for a Free Tibet along with 30 Tibet support groups will bring “Team Tibet” to baseball stadiums in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, DC, Oakland, Detroit, San Diego, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Toronto. We have 50 seats in each stadium and an elaborate plan to publicize the Tibet issue and the importance of securing a spot for “Team Tibet” in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It is not too late in some of these cities to attend the game. For further information, email rangzen@aol.com. Other organizations taking part in the August 4th baseball action include Capital Area Tibetan Association, Committee of 100 for Tibet, Los Angeles Friends of Tibet, San Diego Friends of Tibet, TIBETmichigan, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-Seattle, Bay Area Friends of Tibet, Tibetan Association of Northern California, Wisconsin Tibetan Association, Tibetan Association of Minnesota, Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota, Tibetan Association of Southern California, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-San Francisco, and Tibetan Alliance of Chicago. Our August 4th action will be followed by MAJOR demonstrations at China's Consulates and Embassies in every country worldwide. For details about participating in this action, email rangzen@aol.com. We want to bring “Team Tibet” to the doorstep of every one of China’s Consulates and Embassies in a global effort to STAND UP and STAND STRONG for the Tibetan people inside of Tibet and for their legitimate right to rule their own country. We hope many of you will join in these activities. Tibetans deserve recognition and representation as a Nation alongside others at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. “Team Tibet” is intended to highlight this absence and act as a mechanism for building global support for the campaign to use the Olympics as a catalyst for change in Tibet. If you are Tibetan or a non-Tibetan, please join “Team Tibet” to help bring Tibet to the 2008 Beijing Olympics! To purchase a “Team Tibet” t-shirt, click here.
