The
Two Day Before the Walk Begins - June 25 and 26 - Monday and Tuesday
On June 25, after a 13-hour journey from Indiana to New Jersey,
the four walkers and two members of the film crew who rode out in
a van arrived at 2am to stay with a Tibetan family. Arrangements
for our stay were made about 8pm during the course of our car ride.
Waiting for us was a hot, freshly cooked, delicious meal.
On June
26, these four walkers visited family members and friends in Queens,
New York while the film crew took care of last minute preparations
to get ready for the documentary they planned to shoot.
In the
evening, all 26-core walkers and some special guests gathered at
the All Souls Unitarian Church in Manhattan. One of the special
guests was Professor Narkyid Ngawang Thondup who is His Holiness
The Dalai Lama’s official biographer. Larry Gerstein briefed
the walkers on the logistics of the walk, their responsibilities,
and the program for the next eight days. Each walker also shared
his/her reasons for walking.
