Post Card Campaign

The world's youngest political prisoner, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, The Panchen Lama, was born on April 25th, 1989. On May 17, 1995, The Panchen Rinpoche, His family, and Monks involved in His recognition were illegally aducted by Chinese officials. Since this time, no one has seen or talked to these individuals, including officials from the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and various governments from around the world.

In response to this horrific injustice, over 85 international organizations (see the list that follows) have launched a postcard campaign to demand Gendhun Choekyi Nyima's release. These postcards can be sent to President Jiang Zemin and the U.N. High Commissioner of Human Rights.

The message to President Jiang Zemin states: Release The Panchen Lama NOW!

The message to the U.N High Commissioner states: Where is The Panchen Lama?

Each message is written in Tibetan, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish, and Portuguese. Since March 1998, we have distributed over 200,000 postcards to organizations (Tibetan Associations; Tibet Support Groups) and individuals throughout the world including the following countries: USA, Canada, Israel, India, Australia, Korea, Taiwan, France, Malaysia, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Brazil, Czech Republic, South Africa, Austria, England, Philippines, and New Zealand. Obviously, the response to the campaign has been fantastic!

We need your help to cover the expense of printing more cards. It will cost around 5 cents a card. We do not have the funds to purchase the cards and we are committed to continuing this campaign. Since we want to order 50,000 additional postcards, we must raise over $2500 (US dollars). Any assistance from you would be greatly appreciated. If you are willing, send a check made out to ITIM to:

The Panchen Lama is considered to be an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. Amitabha means "infinite light." Amitabha is the Head of the Lotus family of Buddhas and He is the principal Buddha of the Blissful Pureland of the West. He is the embodiment of the enlightened speech of all the Buddhas. Amitabha Buddha is very important to all Buddhists, especially those in China, Japan, & Korea.
