May 17 Big Sur to Big Creek
Wednesday, May 17, began with moving out of the Growing Edge retreat center, as our night two of a string of "one night stands" was compete. After walking out of Big Sur, Highway 1 wound back to the coast. Of course the beauty continued. After a while you just kind of run out of things to say about it.
We passed by an incredibly amazing water fall that seemed to gush straight out of a rock and spill some 100 feet down.
Iıd bet there arenıt very many places better than the Pacific Coast Highway to enjoy a picnic lunch.
After walking we drove and drove looking for our next housing location. It was neatly tucked away, just on the other side of the Big Creek Bridge. Once we arrived we found probably our most rustic housing yet at the Big Creek Nature Reserve, which is part of the University of California system.
The housing consisted of a yurt, treehouse, small trailer, tents and even a couple of people slept in the vanI think they were afraid to cross the small bridge that cross the river and then led to a trail up to the yurt. Our kitchen was literally outside.
The walk will never cease to amaze you though, because here we were in a valley, in the middle of nowhere, with people sleeping all over the place and yet there was a shower, an outhouse with a flushing toilet and electricity and a phone line. Weıve had so many difficulties getting on the internet in perfectly modern churches and other locations and yet we were able to here. Craziness.
We had a simple dinner of some boiled rib bones, cup-o-soup and whatever other simple things we had. Then we went down to the ocean and play in the waves. A few seals came and checked us out. I think they were intrigued by all the noise we were making as we laughed and tried to push each other in the water.
During our walk back we saw a ton of bats flying along the river darting back and forth as they hunted for insects. Then, up on the mountain there were two deer bouncing around.
Like the rainbows, we have seen a lot of wildlife on our trip. They must know whatsup too.
