On Monday night we held a public program at the Catholic Church, and though it had been advertised in the paper and with flyers, the town was holding a meeting at the same time about a hotly debated desalinization plant. Cambria, like so many other Central Coast communities is trying valiantly to stave off the big-money developers, and the construction of the de-sal plant is a major local issue.

Consequently, the turnout ofr our program was not as large as we had hoped, but those who did show up we highly attentive and interested in the Tibetan cause. One of them, Nick, was so impressed that he cut high school the next day to walk with us. Now, we don't sanction truancy, but we sure did enjoy his presence that day.

We headed inland from the coast a bit and all of the Tibetans kept remarking that the gently rolling hills reminded them of home˛though at a much lower elevation.

That night we moved over to the St. Peter's Episcopal church in Morro Bay, where we enjoyed another generous potluck dinner. Thank you Episcopalians! The pastor, Harriet Linville just about knocked herself out taking care of us. We were without housing and heading for a remote stretch of country, and she made a lot of calls to other pastors to help secure us lodging. Bless you, Harriet! Without you we would have been homeless.

That night we had to separate ourselves into two groups to cover two programs, one at the church and the other at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. The event at Cal Poly was hosted by Sara and Shira from their student organization, Progressive Students Alliance. They did a great job setting up the teach-in that night and we looked forward to more activities in SLO.
