May 25 Screaming through the Farmer's Market
Again we began the morning of May 25 by packing our things and leaving our housing. This has become a rather tricky task as of late because our group has grown to some 20 members. A few walkers who will be going to the San Diego leg of the walk have joined us early.
After walking what seemed like about 20 miles (it was 13) into and through San Luis Obispo, we drove right back into town for dinner. The owner of Cafe Blue Sky Modern Food read about our visit in the newspaper and immediately contacted the California Polytechnic State University support group and asked if he could host us for dinner.
We were all extremely delighted to enjoy such wonderful food in a nice restaurantit had been a while to say the least.
After dinner we grabbed our signs and flags and marched through the extremely popular SLO Farmeršs MarketI didnšt see a lot of farmeršs goods, but there were a lot of vendors and various organizations on hand. There was also a live band and a whole lot of people. It was great to walk through and pass out a couple hundred walk brochures.
Then we walked to the Mission section of town and had a candlelight vigil.
As if the day hadnšt been wonderful enough, a local band called The Bells performed for us. Three female performers did and incredible job and it was quite an honor to have them play for us.
After all of the fun we moved into our housing at the SLO Unitarian Universalists Church where we would stay for the next two nights. |
