May 28 East Bay Momos again Our walk began just a few miles away from our housing on Sunday, May 28, which is always nice because that means we have extra time to eat breakfast and gather our things for the day.
Almost immediately we walked out of Grover Beach and into Oceano and then towards Guadalupe. We walked in the country that day, passing by strawberry fields. A couple of friends from much earlier in the walk drove hours just to walk with us for the day, which is always encouraging. We expected the arrival of a group of about 10 Tibetans from the East Bay all day, but do to holiday weekend traffic they didnšt find us until we just about finished for the day. Our ending point was at the San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara county line. Los Angeles is getting ever closer. Pa-Tenzin-Lašs son, Tenzin, and a couple of his friends were the first to arrive. Their relationship is obviously quite specialthey openly show a lot of affection for each other.
Once we reached the Pismo Beach Presbyterian Church where we would stay for one more night, the rest of our Tibetan friends arrived. Dela, a 14-year-old Tibetan girl, came in that party to remain with us for the rest of the walk. Young energy is a very good thing.
That evening we were once again treated to a Tibetan momo dinner. They prepared them fresh right on the spot. Making momos is more of a cultural event than a culinary one. It is wonderful to watch a team of Tibetans sit and roll out the dough and stuff it with meat, because they talk, laugh and tease each other the entire time.
One of lifešs great pleasures is a momo fresh out of the steamer. All of our friends stayed with us for the night, because most of them planned on walking the next day.
