May 30

Day off in Santa Maria

Tuesday, May 30, was a quiet, but busy day. We had the day off from walking, but kept busy with showers, laundry, shopping and an interview with the local newspaper.

We also did some route scouting for the next dayıs walk because we noticed on the map that our route has us walking on freeway, which is not legalour last encounter with freeway resulted in Jeff getting a ticket.

At 5:30 we enjoyed another pot luck dinner with our friends at St. Peterıs in Santa Maria, which was followed by a program attended by about 30 most elderly people.

While we planned to give a shortened version of our presentation, we probably gave one of our longest talks. There was an energy in the room that prompted our speakers to continue. Virtually everyone in the room gave complete attention to the details of their horrific prison experiences.

Our discussion that followed the presentation was rich, too. We made a strong connection in Santa Maria.
