June 1 Hilly, dangerous, but smooth
Todayıs walk was a bit harrowing at the beginning. On Thursday, June 1, we got a 3.5-mile taste of what walking through inland curvy roads was going to be like.
We walked over Harris Grade Road, which is a curvy, hilly and dangerous road that snakes its way over a mountain. Weıve become professionals by now, so all went extremely smooth.
The really cool thing about todayıs walk was that our housing was about 7 miles from our starting point, which made it the perfect lunch stop. Weıre so used to finding a patch of grass and some shade on the side of the roadit was nice to have a change. The even cooler thing that happened today was that we found out weıd be staying at the Chumash Indian Reservation in Santa Ynez over the weekend, thanks to the tremendous assistance of the Novicks down in Malibu. Theyıre also coordinating all of our housing and gigs in that area too ... they rock to say the least. We were happy to find out that we wouldnıt have to camp. We have tents, but after walking, sleeping and cooking outside wouldnıt be much fun.
Later that evening we also found out that weıd be moving the next day. We had originally thought weıd stay at St. Maryıs for one more night, but they had a funeral scheduled for early Saturday morning and thought it would be best if we could go down to the Methodist Church in town, where weıd been offered housing.
The Methodists have really stepped up for Tibet. They have taken a stand against the trade bill for China and theyıll be housing us for the last two weeks of the walk. Thank you all so much. |
