June 4

Scaring the Tourists

Walking on Sunday, June 4, was a lot of fun because we had some good friends with us and the last leg of the walk took us through this little tourist trap of a town called Solvang. Itıs supposedly modeled after Copenhagen, but it was a bit cheesy to say the least.

You can imagine the kind of tourists that we found in that town. I think we scared them have to death. They wonıt forget the Tibet walkers anytime soon.

We invited some of the tribal members over for dinner, but I think on such short notice they werenıt available.

The big hit entertainment for the night was a Tibetan game, which Yishe introduced to us at lunch time. The game is simple as can be, but a whole lot of fun. Basically you need a small ball, two people and a coin. Each person stands about 10 feet away from the coin and you try to hit it with the ball. The ball bounces back and forth between the two peoplesimple. Scoring is simple too. If you hit the coin itıs a point and if you hit it and flip it, itıs two points. The first one to five points wins.

We had another great Tibetan-style meal that evening, called tenmo (large, bread/dumplings). All vegetarian, too.
