June 13 A couple of good days off
Monday and Tuesday, June 12 and 13, were both days off from walking and programs. If I remember correctly, this was the only two-day break we have had since we began walking some six weeks earlier.
Everyone just kind of did there own thing. Some people went to the beach. A few went to Los Angeles. I think just about everyone did laundry. We watched movies. And, there were even a few lessons on the Tibetan alphabet led by Yishe.
In the morning we were interviewed by the local Ventura county newspaper, which turned out to be a very emotional event. No matter how many times you hear the stories of torture and suffering, the pain never goes away. It never becomes easier to listen to. And, it almost becomes harder to hold back the feelings.
Food donations continued to flow in while in Ventura. Tuesday we were invited for lunch at Christine Dawkins' house. She made a wonderful veggie chili accompanied by incredible cornbread.
In the evening we went to Carol Moss' home in Malibu for a pizza dinner. She has an amazingly beautiful home right on the beach. Ronny Novick told us that on one visit to Carol's he was looking out the window and saw an elephant walking by on the beach. When he went outside he found out the family had rented it for a birthday party. Just to add to the surrealism of the whole encounter he saw John MacEnroe a couple doors down playing frisbee on the beach.
